Westhampton Beach, NY – Imagine that you are working on the roof of an apartment

building or store and are injured, unable to get down. No elevator or even stairs to get

to ground level. How do you get to the ground over 30 feet away?

This is what a team of firefighters from the Westhampton Beach Fire Department

practiced for at a recent drill. The firefighters used a ladder to reach the roof and with

the help of a “stokes basket” and ropes, were able to lower the victim to the ground

safely.

The firefighters used a training dummy and practiced this form of rescue at the

Southampton Town fire training grounds in Hampton Bays.
