Westhampton Beach, NYThe Westhampton Beach Fire Department responded to a

 

working house fire at 111 Old Meeting House Road in Quiogue at approximately

 

12:37am on Wednesday, February 1st.

 

The fire was originally reported by a Southampton Town Police Officer while on patrol.

 

The owners were not at home at the time of the fire and the house was being

 

renovated.

 

No firefighters or others were injured.  Even though the house was destroyed by the

 

fire, firefighters saved two cars that were in the attached garage and prevented any

 

serious damage to a detached garage that was close to the main house. 

 

The Westhampton Beach firefighters were supported by firefighters from Quogue,

 

Eastport, Hampton Bays, Riverhead, East Moriches and Flanders Fire Departments as

 

well as Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance.

 

The fire was brought under control by 2:45am and the crews were released from the

 

scene starting at 5:00 am with the last crews returning to their fire houses by 5:45 am.  

 

Firefighters returned to the scene after daylight with a pumper and tanker from

 

Westhampton Beach and a tanker from Eastport to prevent any rekindle of the fire.

 

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by the Southampton Town

 

Fire Marshal’s office.
