Westhampton Beach, NY – At 10:19 pm, Tuesday, February 26, The Westhampton Beach
Fire Department responded to a working structure fire at 10 Old Riverhead Road
in Westhampton Beach. The fire was reported by police, stating the fire was
through the roof.
Three dogs perished in the fire but
there there were no reported injuries to firefighters
or others.
Although the building, an automotive
repair shop, sustained extensive damage, all exposures, including a house
behind the shop and several cars parked along side the building, were saved.
With help from Eastport and Gabreski Airport Fire Departments at the scene, the fire
was brought under control within an hour. The Westhampton War Memorial
Ambulance was also at the scene and Quogue Fire Department responded to the
firehouse to stand by.
By 12:39 the scene was secured and
all units were back in service. The cause of the fire was undetermined and is
under investigation by the Southampton Town Fire Marshall's office.
