Westhampton Beach, NY –The Westhampton Beach Fire Department recently hosted a symposium featuring William Goldfeder. Chief Goldfeder has over 20 years in the fire service and along with his current duties as a Deputy Fire Chief for the Loveland Ohio Fire Department. He also writes several columns relating to fire safety and tours the country to lecture both paid and volunteer firefighters on safety.

The symposium was attended by over 115 firefighters and EMS personnel from more than 10 departments in Suffolk and Nassau counties.

Chief Goldfeder stressed the need for firefighters to think before acting and stressed safety for firefighters and civilians. The Chief uses many examples of actual responses or training gone bad to reinforce his points. If something has gone wrong, especially if it resulted in death or serious injury, he probably knows about it in detail and will share his knowledge to help other departments prevent the same tragedy. All in attendance felt that it was a day well spent and left better prepared to get home safely from a fire call.
