Westhampton Beach- The Westhampton Beach Fire Department responded to

structure fire at a residence located on St. George Place in Quiogue on

Sunday, May 6^th, at 3:03 pm.

The homeowner called in the alarm because of smoke in the house. Firefighters

searched the house and then had to go into the crawl space to locate the

problem. Wires that had been wet were shorting out and power to the house

was shut off.

Because the homeowner had not hesitated to call the fire department and the

quick response of firefighters, (several who spent over an hour in very confined

space under the house), what could have been a major fire was avoided.

The Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance also stood by at the scene. There

were no injuries to firefighters or others and the incident is under investigation by

the Southampton Town Fire Marshal’s office.
